Punjab Olympic Association
The PMPA is the provincial-body responsible for administering and promoting the sport of modern pentathlon in Punjab, Pakistan.
It operates under/with the national body, the Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF). Wikipedia+2uipmworld.org+2
Its remit includes organising training camps, championships (inter-division/provincial), and selecting athletes from Punjab for national championships. For instance, an inter-division championship in Gujranwala was announced by the PMPA.
In December 2021, elections were held for the PMPA. According to the report:
President: Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman (Commissioner Gujranwala) was elected unopposed for a four-year term. App.com.pk+1
Senior Vice President: Rao Shahid Qayyum
Vice Presidents: Ch. Mohammad Ashraf, Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Amir Raza Khan, Tahir Mahmood
Secretary General: Mohammad Ashfaq
Finance Secretary: Amir Shah
Associate Secretary: Kaleemullah Farooqi
Chairperson Women Wing: Oksana Lyman
Governing Body Members: Sana Arshad, Khawar Mateen, Shah Muhammad, Qaiser Ali, Mohammad Sajid UrduPoint+1
The President statement included plans to establish a “pentathlon academy … in Nishtar Park Sports Complex”. UrduPoint+1
The term and full constitution of the association are not widely published in accessible sources.
The PMPA announced that an Inter-Division Pentathlon Championship would be organised in Gujranwala starting 26 December 2021, for players across the province. App.com.pk
The national body (PMPF) and provincial bodies are working to expand the sport in Pakistan; the global governing body Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne (UIPM) reported that “pentathlon achieves rapid growth in Pakistan.” uipmworld.org
At the provincial level: The Sports Board Punjab (SBP) has supported junior running & shooting events (“Laser Run City Tour”), which tie into the pentathlon programme. For example 290 boys & girls from schools/colleges participated in Punjab. Pakistan Observer+1
Prize distribution: The DG SBP distributed cash prizes to national pentathlon athletes in Lahore, noting that pentathlon “is a new game and it is getting rapid acceptance among the young generation of the province.” Pakistan Today
The fact that a formal election was held and a full leadership team documented shows that the PMPA has some organisational structure in place.
The announcements of a dedicated academy (in Nishtar Park) and inter-division championships show intent to expand and deepen the sport’s footprint in Punjab.
Support from the Sports Board Punjab and national body indicates access to resources and collaborations.
The sport is being introduced to youth via running/shooting (Laser Run) which is a good gateway into modern pentathlon’s disciplines.
I could not find a publicly available full constitution/by-laws of the PMPA, nor a regularly updated website with all membership, affiliated clubs or divisions.
The scale of infrastructure (how many training venues, coaches dedicated to pentathlon in Punjab) is not clearly documented in accessible sources.
While inter-division championships were announced in 2021, less information is available on a full calendar of events (junior, senior, district) for subsequent years.
The sport is relatively new in Pakistan — the UIPM source says it was introduced just ~2 years prior to 2015 and was still in early growth stage. uipmworld.org
Bringing all five (or four) disciplines of pentathlon (running/shooting, swimming, fencing, riding/obstacles) to scale in all districts may be resource-challenging.
The Punjab Modern Pentathlon Association is the provincial body tasked with developing modern pentathlon in Punjab. It has elected leadership, intentions to expand via training academies and inter-division competitions, and is aligned with national/international bodies. However, as with many relatively newer sports in the region, full transparency of operations, infrastructure scaling, and widespread district-level participation remain areas that could grow.
PKA organises provincial championships. Example: On Jan 3, an event in Sahiwal at the Sports Gymnasium Hall, where Lahore won the Punjab karate championship title. App.com.pk
District‐level associations under the umbrella of PKA are active: e.g., the Rawalpindi District Karate Association (which would fall under Punjab) reported that they “regularly organise tournaments to give young athletes opportunities …” and their girls’ team won first place in the Central Punjab Karate Championship in Sargodha. Aaj English TV+1
In national championships, Punjab often features: For example in the 31st National Karate Championship (June 2025), Punjab was joint runners-up in the men’s category. The News International
PKA appears to be engaged in promoting junior development and participation of girls & younger athletes (the district association comment indicates that). The regular tournament circuit helps exposure.
The national body PKF has its headquarters in Lahore (Punjab) at Olympic House. Local Gyms and Fitness+1
PKA is likely affiliated to PKF, and through it to the Asian and World Karate federations.
The provincial championship example (Sahiwal championship) indicates that districts and divisions within Punjab are affiliated and send athletes to PKA events. App.com.pk
The standard term of office seems to be about four years (per the election article). App.com.pk
I did not find a full verified contact listing for PKA (address, phone, email) from the sources I accessed. The election article lists “a spokesman for the Punjab Karate Association” but not full contact details. App.com.pk
For national context, PKF’s address is known: Olympic House, 2-Hameed Nizami (Temple) Road, Lahore. Local Gyms and Fitness+1
If we assume provincial body is also in Lahore or within Punjab sports board region, then a local enquiry at Sports Board Punjab or PKF might reveal full details.
There is a clear competition structure: district → provincial → national; PKA is actively holding events, notably for both male and female athletes.
Representation of women in PKA leadership (Lady Vice President) suggests intent for gender inclusion.
Engagement of younger athletes and districts (this is seen via district POR).
Proximity to national headquarters (PKF) being in Lahore enhances the possibility of synergy.
Information transparency: The public documentation for PKA (constitution, full list of clubs under PKA, district affiliates, contact info) seems limited in available sources.
Resource & infrastructure: While not explicitly stated, typical issues for provincial bodies in Pakistan include access to high‐quality coaching, training facilities, regular tournaments in remote districts, and sustained funding.
Junior & grassroots outreach: While district associations are active, ensuring that all districts and tehsils have adequate training and regular events is always a challenge.
Retention & progression: Ensuring that talented youngsters move to national level and get proper support to excel internationally.
Female participation: While there is some indication of girls’ teams and female leadership, ensuring equal access in all divisions may still be an ongoing endeavour.
The Punjab Karate Association is the key provincial body for karate in Punjab, functioning under the national framework of the Pakistan Karate Federation. It currently has a leadership team in place, is organising championships at provincial level, and working with district associations. To fully map its scope (clubs, affiliates, detailed contact info, finances) more direct source material would be needed.
